This is an excellent option. Store one of each types of liquor, a few wine bottles, and glasses below. Any kind of mixers (seltzer, juices, fruit) can stay in the fridge.

Tips from a NYC Bartender & Sommelier

Ok, this is actually tips from me... but I worked as a bartender at high-end restaurant on the Upper East Side, and I dated a soon-to-be Sommelier, and I grew up in a house with a fully-stocked bar... that I also bartended at when my parents hosted parties...so altogether... I have some expertise. 

Here's the deal. When someone enters your home, no one ~no one~ will appreciate any question more than this:  "What can I get you to drink?" except for when it's followed by THEIR choice! To me, this is the epitome of adulthood, class, and consideration. Believe me, you'll feel just as good about offering something that your guest will actually enjoy, as they will enjoying it.

How else will this help you? Glad you asked! Stocking now eliminates future harried and stressed runs to the liquor store to pick up something when someone is coming over... be it planned or last minute!

And as always, thank your guests for coming over - no matter how near or far, they still made the effort! 

My recommendations:

At bare minimum:

  • 1 vodka
  • 1 tequila
  • 1 whiskey or bourbon
  • 1 gin
  • 1 rum
  • 1 everyday red 
  • 1 everyday white
  • 1 everyday rose
  • 1 bottle of choosing for special occasions
  • alternatively: 2 or 3 bottles of the same everyday wine
